Lessons never to be learnt

The "extraordinarily brutal" conflict that made Europe and the world react with horror and disapproval  20 years ago, has teach us nothing or very little.

"I think the majority of the people in this country realises that all of us came out of this war as losers, but I fear the majority has also failed to learn the lessons," said 46-year-old Radoslav Zivkovic, a Serb in the wartime Serb stronghold of Pale (source:http://www.worldbulletin.net/?aType=haberYazdir&ArticleID=88207&tip=).

In the "developed countries" we can not really understand this kind of conflict,. Of course we can understand about political situations over the years, fights for power, religion, race issues, economics..., but every one knows how much suffering this kind of conflicts will bring. Why can not we avoid them? why can not help other countries?. I will always think I would rather kill myself...and then you see this people fighting and going under the (in my view) most unbearable situations... killing and getting killed, torturing and getting tortured... dehumanised...western helping forces included...

I do not understand how humans can forget so easily, how we can so easily pretend there is nothing to do with us. But maybe I know, we all know. It is like any other horrible situation that happens in our day to day life. We just try to forget about it, keep going and try to be as happy as we can.  We need to, life is so short...

Most of us know people, relatives, friends, neighbours..., that have lived the horrors of some war...II World War, Spanish Civil War, Balkans...here in Europe...all terrible, all brutal, all bringing out the worst of the those directly involved..., yet those situations will happen again in Europe. They are happening now in many places, horribly ethnic wars, power wars, religious wars...people running for they lives,  leaving the little they have behind. The ones lucky to survive might never get back to their towns. Sudan, Congo, Afghanistan, Syria, Myanmar, Cachemira, Lebanon, Mali, Nepal, Sahara...we hear about those conflicts in the news for a couple of days and then we swiftly move to the new thing, is the only way...

Is it?

Those red-blood chairs are telling us something...
